I've never found better toolbar than Launchmate...
I used it with W98, and I go on with Windows XP Pro. It works perfectly...  :D

Do we have to suffer for a longtime before Launchmate 4 ?

Fred .......... he loves you........  :P

Fred thanks for the gushing praise of LaunchMate. Currently my extremely tight deadlines at work have driven the programming desire out me. But I hope to get around to finishing up LM4 soon.

My experience as an long term user with launchmate has been great. I dock the bar on top of the screen edge and set it up on auto hide at high slid speed. Ever since then both my desktop and taskbar has never been so uncluttered with short cuts. The program has been rock stable running on my system with no memory leaks. There not that much I can think of to improve the program other than maybe some cosmetic changes to make it blend better. A better product can be created if you just continue to refine what is already in this program. I can't wait until version 4 is out.

Have you tried the preview? Do you feel that the changes are too extreme?

Looking for a point and click menu tools, I found your program. It's great, expecially the new version.
I thing it's very strategic to save parameters in a profile rather than the registry.
We could pre-coding different menu for different uses, save them in different directory or move them on different machine? It wold be a gret goal.
Have a happy New Year.

Great program

I've used the MS Office Shortcut Bar for many years and recently upgraded to Office 2003.  What do I find ... no Shortcut Bar !!!  I can't believe that 'they' have done this.  Who wants to clutter up the Quicklaunch Toolbar with stuff.  Personally my Quicklaunch toolbar already spreads across the whole bottom of the screen !!!  The MS Office Shortcut Bar was full also down the right hand edge.

Anyway I was contemplating ditching Office 2003 but came across LM via a Google search and installed LM4 Preview without hesitation.  Absolutely terrific.

I know v4 is currently in Preview and there appears to be no hlp file but is there anyway to change the 'Hint' that appears when you hover over a button?  For example, I have a shortcut to Outlook 2003, and when I hover it displays 'OUTLOOK.EXE'.  I wish to change this.  Is it something simple I've missed or is this not implemented.

Tia

Thx again for filling a gaping hole left by the guys at Redmond !!!

It's broken in the current preview. Hopefully I'll get around to doing a new preview soon. You could use LaunchMate 3.0 in the meantime. It normally works by changing the description.

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate Launchmate.  I get the impression you consider it something of a "no big deal" and I wanted to correct that misconception (at least in my case).

I started using it with W98 (got it from "nonags" when subscriptions were "forever") and suffered through a couple of weeks of withdrawal because I had read somewhere that it didn't migrate to XP.  Finally, I could take it no more and installed my archived version and crossed my fingers.  Obviously, it worked well and I kicked myself repeatedly for not trying it first thing.

Second, I want you to know that I would GLADLY pay you for this program because of the tremendous utility I've received from it over the years.   I can understand if you don't take credit cards, but I'll even break down and use Paypal (the beast that strikes terror in my paranoid heart) if that's the best you can do.

During my "shaky days" (read: self-imposed launchmate fasting) I tried many alternatives and didn't like any of them.  I was on the verge of building folders (by category) and placing my shortcuts in them in a pathetic attempt to accomplish a similar task :D  Fortunately, I wasn't forced to this extreme.

An interesting point regarding someone's mention that "tooltips" could not be altered and your response that it was "broken":

When I renamed my lnchmate.lmb and put it into the new folder I set up to run trials of version 4.....TOOLTIPS APPEARED "CORRECTLY" (in other words, exactly as they had been changed in the original LM3.  I still couldn't change them but I found that I could simply open the .lmb file in notepad and change the names manually to whatever I wanted.

The only changes I've ever wanted to this program were options to set icon sizes to other than 16/32 but I understand the reason you're not going this route and it's not a "deal killer".

To tell the truth, I thought you were a gullible chump to give this utility away free for so long, but I realize now (at least I think I do) that you just did not appreciate what a wonderful utility this is and that there's probably enough of us out here who value it highly enough to pay for it.

Simply put? You've "done good" and should be rewarded for it.  Let me know if I can help.

Thank you for your praise of LaunchMate.  Sorry about the icons but it would be too large of a change at this point.

Helping you out and making your time on the computer a little easier is worth more than money. Although I have thought about charging to pay for webspace. Since Sourceforge has graciously allowed me space for LaunchMate maybe you could donte something to them if it would make you feel better.

I'd just like to second the comment by Ray above.  I just spent a bunch of time trying all the program launchers and quick-launch replacements I could find.  There are a lot of them!  None of them were as good as LaunchMate, and some of them were charging $25 or more for registration.  If you had a something like a "donate via PayPal" link I'd be happy to contribute!

Just thought you'd like to know that there are a number of developers here that use your product.  Absolutely no bones about it -- you should charge at least $15 for your intellectual property.  You've earned it!

Well done.
